Open Question: I was on an 8 month contract with a company. The contract ended do i qualify for EI?

Basically i got a job with this good company. It was covering for a girl who went on to maternity leave. I covered for her for 8 month and when she came back i was told my contract was up. I'm wondering would i still qualify for EI since i didn't quit or get fired? my job was simply finished. Thanks in advance for all your help.
