Princess Di is Turning 50

You may or may not have heard of the controversy surrounding the most recent cover of Newsweek. You know, the one where they superimposed her image next to Kate Middleton and aged her up..

My question: Is this controversial? Do you think Newsweek should have published this?

The article in the magazine about Diana goes on a two-page hypothetical journey about what her life would have been like if the car crash never happened. Tina Brown imagines how Diana would even interact with Kate Middleton. She says it would have been difficult at first but she would have probably been "BFF" with Carole Middleton, Kate's mother. Yet, she offers this little gem, "Her edge over Kate, of course, was her own epic of princessly suffering, which would always make Diana’s story more interesting. (“Happily ever after” will never have the same allure to the press as “It all went horribly wrong.”)."

Brown is no fortune teller. I find it hard to believe that Diana and Kate wouldn't bond over mutual distrust of the paparazzi. They both contribute extensively to charities. Kate and William asked that in lieu of wedding gifts, they created a Wedding Charity Fund that ultimately raised over a million pounds.

Floating on the wave of Diana's fame comes news of a book called Untold Story: A Novel by Monica Ali. It explores a world where she never died, instead, she faked her own death by drowning. User reviews put it on the fence but I'm curious enough to wonder how a famous princess can get accustomed to living in a rural Pennsylvania town called Kensington.
