Leighton Meester

Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester is in a nasty legal battle with her mom. And the ugly details are all coming out in court documents.
In a lawsuit filed last week, Leighton, 25, says her mother, Constance Meester, is using the $7,500 the actress sends home monthly for cosmetic procedures instead of health care for her youngest brother Alexander, who has medical issues.
According to the documents, Leighton says her mom refuses to work and is using the money for Botox, plastic surgery and hair extensions.
In response on Monday, Constance Meester filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court claiming that Leighton promised her a one-time payment of $30,000, and then $10,000 a month, and hasn't paid. As a result, there's not sufficient funds for Alexander, who recently required brain surgery. Constance says she is owed the money for all she has "sacrificed" in building Leighton's career over the last decade.
She also says that "at 2:00 a.m. on December 11, 2010, Leighton intentionally assaulted Constance by throwing her to the ground and repeatedly hitting her with a bottle. Leighton had to be pulled off of Constance by her brother Alexander."

Kat Von D

Jesse James and Kat Von D have broken off their engagement.

"I am no longer w Jesse," Von D confirmed on her Twitter account, "and out of respect for him, his family and myself, thats all the info I'd like to share. Thanks for respecting that."
The motorcycle mogul and the "LA Ink" star, who announced their engagement in January, had reportedly been planning a summer wedding.

Distance was a factor in the breakup, James told People magazine on Tuesday.

"I'm so sad because I really love her," he said. "The distance between us was just too much."

Von D (whose real name is Katherine Von Drachenberg) shoots her reality show in Los Angeles, while James lives in Austin, Texas, with his three children, Chandler, 16, Jesse Jr., 14, and Sunny, 7.

Last month, James and Von D shot down speculation that they had split, calling the rumors "absolutely not true."

The pair began dating last summer, after the collapse of James' marriage to actress Sandra Bullock following revelations that he cheated on her. Their divorce was finalized in June 2010.

Ravichandran Tamil Actor

Ravichandran Tamil Actor
Veteran Tamil actor Ravichandran died on Monday at a private hospital here where he was being treated for nearly ten days for a lung infection. Doctors said he did not respond to treatment and his condition had deteriorated over the last two days. He was on a life support system.

"His pulse and BP dropped drastically. We could do nothing," a doctor said. He was 71 and is survived by his wife, daughter and two sons.

A popular hero of the 1960s and 70s, most of whose films were huge hits Ravichandran acted aside erstwhile heroes like MGR and Sivaji Ganesan. Among his latest films were "Arunachalam" with Rajinikanth and "Pammal K Sambandam" withKamal Haasan. He made his debut as a hero in Sridhar's "Kadhalikka Neramillai" which eventually became a huge hit.

Ravichandran, who was last seen in "Kanden Kadhalai" as the grandfather of actress Thamannaah, had a style of his own. "His gestures were very popular among us. He had a style of his own when it came to walking. I think this made many of the youngsters imitate him those days. He also had a lot of fans in Tamil Nadu because of his stunning performancees," said K Sundar, a fan of Ravichandran.

Talking to The Times of India, veteran writer Ashokamitran said that even though Ravichandran did not make himself so distinguished as an actor, he was very popular among the youngsters. "A lot of movies he acted in became huge hits in those days. He will always be remembered for his different roles," he said. An alumnus of St Joseph's College in Tiruchi, Ravichandran used to spend most of his time in Malaysia.

Russell Brand

For all his posturing, Russell Brand is a far more accomplished writer than he'd probably ever let on. Once upon a time, his words were reserved for his stand-up routines and weekly soccer column for the Guardian newspaper. But the release of his autobiography, My Booky Wook, alerted us to his talent for getting his eloquent thoughts down on paper. And his penning of an exquisite letter on his website (it's also reprinted in the Guardian) to the late British singer Amy Winehouse, who died on Saturday, is nothing short of heartbreaking.
Brand begins and ends by reminding the readers how, "When you love someone who suffers from the disease of addiction you await the phone call," before explaining that the nature of the call will either be good news ("They've had enough, that they're ready to stop") or bad ("the sad nocturnal chime from a friend or relative telling you it's too late, she's gone.")
He then writes about how when they first met many years ago, Brand didn't really take Winehouse or her talent seriously. What they did have in common, however, was that they "shared an affliction, the disease of addiction." (Brand has spoken and written at length about his stint in rehab).
The moment of epiphany for Brand, that stunning one-off occurrence which made him understand just what a delicate and fragile talent Winehouse was, came at the north London venue, The Roundhouse (eerily, the location of Winehouse's final appearance in public last week). It was ostensibly Paul Weller's show but it seems that Winehouse stole the show. It's worth quoting at length (save for the tweaking of a curse word and editing of some of the paragraph for the sake of brevity).
The awe that envelops when witnessing a genius. From her oddly dainty presence that voice, a voice that seemed not to come from her but from somewhere beyond even Billie and Ella, from the font of all greatness. A voice that was filled with such power and pain that it was at once entirely human yet laced with the divine. My ears, my mouth, my heart and mind all instantly opened. Winehouse. Winehouse? Winehouse! ... She wasn't just some hapless wannabe, yet another pissed up nit who was never gonna make it, nor was she even a ten-a-penny-chanteuse enjoying her fifteen minutes. She was a f***ing genius.
But perhaps the main point that Brand wanted to put across was that, in addition to how crucial it was that he received treatment of his own at Focus 12, was that, "We need to review the way society treats addicts, not as criminals but as sick people in need of care. We need to look at the way our government funds rehabilitation."
The overwhelming reaction to Brand's letter online has been astonishingly positive. Indeed, he may never garner better reviews, and we get the feeling he'd be absolutely fine about it.
